Peringode HSS Students Shine in Panchavadyam and Maddalam Categories at School Kalolsavam

Thrissur: Peringode HSS in Palakkad is a name that cannot be replaced when it comes to 'panchavadyam'. The school has its own registered cooperative society dedicated to teaching students this traditional art form. Currently, it serves as a learning center for around forty students. Former students teach musical instruments such as chenda, maddalam, idakka, thakil, kombu, kuzhal, and chengila.
B Mahalakshmi of Peringode HSS, who competed in the maddalam category, along with three students who came to play the thalam, are pride members of the school’s panchavadyam troupe. The troupe’s own collection of instruments gave them an added advantage. Training sessions are held in the evenings after classes.
Mahalakshmi is the daughter of 'Maddalam Vidwan' Sadanam Bharatharajan. With her father’s guidance and the support of the school’s teaching troupe, she secured an A grade this year. Her fellow students and members of the panchavadyam group—Gokul M Nair, Akshay Krishna, and M Nived—accompanied her on chenda and chengila. Together, they earned the school an A grade in both maddalam and panchavadyam categories.
