Nilambur: CPI(M) state secretariat member and LDF candidate M. Swaraj has said that the Left will continue its political work with renewed strength, drawing lessons from the Nilambur bypoll. He reaffirmed that the campaign was grounded in people’s real concerns and avoided diversion into personal or irrelevant controversies.
“Our focus was solely on issues that affect the people and the region,” Swaraj said, adding that the outcome of the election would not alter the party’s commitment to its political line. “We will move forward with greater strength, based on the experience and insights gained from this election,” he said.
Swaraj underlined that the LDF’s campaign in Nilambur was an effort to raise the level of political discussion. “We sought to develop the campaign as a space for meaningful democratic dialogue. We take pride in having stayed rooted in public issues and refraining from engaging in the kinds of controversies others tried to provoke.”
Development remained the central theme of the Left’s campaign, he said, and added that a detailed internal review would follow. “What needs to be absorbed will be absorbed. What needs to be explained to the public, we will explain. But governance cannot be judged by one election result. If so, one would have to assume that all the reforms and actions of the government were rejected — and that is not the case. It was the LDF government that eliminated load-shedding. Surely, the people do not wish to return to that. The government raised the pension to Rs 1,600 and is distributing it regularly — the people are not opposed to that either. Many factors influence election outcomes, and we will study them closely. But we find no fault in the politics we upheld, in the clarity of our stand, or in our commitment to Kerala’s comprehensive development.” he said.
Commenting on political positioning, Swaraj reiterated the CPI(M)’s firm stand against communalism. “We have never sought or needed the support of communal forces. Even if that means facing electoral setbacks, we will not deviate from our principled stand. The right political line is not always accepted immediately. But that does not mean it is wrong, nor does it mean we should abandon it.”
He affirmed that the CPI(M)’s struggle for the people and the state will continue, regardless of electoral outcome. “Victory or defeat will not change our resolve. Our political journey remains firmly rooted in the needs and rights of the people.”
