Nilambur: The campaign for the Nilambur assembly by-election reaches its final day today, with a grand roadshow led by LDF candidate M Swaraj. The roadshow, which marks the culmination of the 22-day campaign, will cover key locations across the constituency. According to the LDF election committee, all preparations for the event have been completed.
The roadshow will commence in the morning from Marutha and pass through Vazhikkadavu, Edakkara, Chungathara, Muttikkadavu, Palengara, Karulai, Mayilumpura, Chulliyode, Pookottumpadam, Ancham Mile, Uppuvalli, Chelode, and Chanthakkunnu, before concluding in Nilambur. Large turnouts are expected, with thousands of workers and members of the public likely to take part. M Swaraj is scheduled to address gatherings at multiple points along the route. Cultural programmes are also planned as part of the event.
Today marks the final day of public campaigning. Wednesday will observe the silent campaign period, and polling will take place on Thursday. The results are scheduled to be announced on the 23rd. The Nilambur constituency comprises seven panchayats and one municipality. It is a high-range region with a demographically diverse population, including farmers, migrant communities, small-scale traders, and tribal groups.
Senior LDF leaders, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI M General Secretary M A Baby, State Secretary M V Govindan, and CPI State Secretary Binoy Viswam, were actively involved in the campaign. Ministers and elected representatives also contributed extensively to the LDF’s outreach efforts.
The UDF brought in Priyanka Gandhi for a one-day roadshow, but it failed to evoke significant public enthusiasm. Notably, the BJP candidate in the fray, Mohan George of Kerala Congress (J), was fielded with UDF’s backing, an alliance move that has drawn attention. In total, ten candidates are contesting the by-election, including P V Anvar and SDPI's Sadiq Naduthodika.
