UP Fast Track Court Rejects UP Government’s Plea to Withdraw Dadri Lynching Case

Fast track court in UP's Gautam Budh Nagar has rejected the Uttar Pradesh Government's application to withdraw the prosecution case against the accused in the 2015 Dadri lynching case.

Additional District Judge Saurabh Dwivedi dismissed the plea under sectin 321CrPC, which asked to drop charges against 14 accused who killed Muhammed Akhlaq. As per reports, the court also ordered day-to-day hearing of the case and also directed an order to ensure the protection of evidence.

Akhlaq was lynched by a mob in Dadri in 2015 after people alleged that he had eaten beef during Eid and had stored it for later consumption. He was dragged out of his home and beaten to death. Following the incident, the Gautam Budh Nagar police made several arrests over the next few days.

As per the FIR registered by the police, 18 accused were arrested, including three minors. While one of the accused passed away in 2016, the remaining 14 are currently out on bail.

Meanwhile, the wife of Muhammad Akhlaq, the victim of the Dadri lynching case, has also moved the Allahabad High Court against the Uttar Pradesh government's decision to withdraw the case against the accused.
