Supreme Court Criticises Government Over Delayed Transcripts in Sonam Wangchuk's Case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has criticised the central government over the case related to social activist Sonam Wangchuk. The court expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in producing transcripts of Wangchuk's speeches and statements.
The court reminded that we are living in the era of AI and that it is unacceptable for documents to take weeks to prepare in an age where technology has advanced to such an extent. It would only take minutes to transcribe audio and video in today's digital age. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan noted that such slow-moving policies hinder the process of justice in the modern age.
Sonam Wangchuk, who had earlier led a march to Delhi demanding special status for Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, was detained. The court questioned the slow pace of the legal proceedings related to his case. The Solicitor General stated that the documents were being examined and that more time was needed for an accurate translation. However, the court rejected these arguments and strictly instructed that all the documents be properly produced the next time the case is considered.
This important intervention by the Supreme Court comes at a time when Wangchuk's fight for environmental protection and democratic rights in Ladakh is receiving widespread public support.
