Sonam Wangchuk's Wife Moves Delhi High Court Seeking Transfer to Private Hospital

New Delhi: Sonam Wangchuk's wife, Geetanjali Angmo, has filed an urgent petition in the Delhi High Court seeking his transfer to a private hospital. The family said they have no confidence in the treatment being provided at the government-run Safdarjung Hospital or in the medical information being shared by the hospital authorities.

According to Geetanjali, there are inconsistencies in the information provided by the hospital regarding Wangchuk's potassium levels.

Sonam Wangchuk has alleged that he is being illegally detained in the hospital under the guise of medical treatment. More than 100 police personnel have been deployed inside and around the hospital, and the family's movements are being restricted. Geetanjali's petition contends that these actions violate Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution. The plea seeks Wangchuk's immediate discharge from Safdarjung Hospital and his transfer to a private medical facility.

Wangchuk had been on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar since June 28, protesting the student suicides linked to the irregularities in the NEET examination and demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for not accepting responsibility. On Saturday, police forcibly removed Wangchuk from the protest site and admitted him to Safdarjung Hospital.
