SFI Sweeps Ambedkar University Delhi Student Polls

New Delhi: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has once again demonstrated its strength in the student council elections at Dr. B R Ambedkar University Delhi, emerging as the winner with a sweeping presence across all campuses.

At the Kashmere Gate campus, SFI secured a clear majority by winning the support of 13 councillors in the 25-member council. The organization also performed strongly in other campuses—winning 5 out of 7 seats at Karampura and 3 out of 4 seats at Lodhi Road. In total, SFI captured 21 seats, outpacing rival groups such as ABVP and AISA to claim a decisive victory.

This electoral success comes despite what SFI describes as sustained administrative repression. Last year, eight of its student leaders were expelled by the university administration. Students who staged peaceful protests on issues including ragging were allegedly branded as “terrorists” by authorities—an approach SFI strongly criticized.

Since student council elections were introduced at the university in 2018, SFI has maintained an unbroken record of victories. According to SFI Delhi President Suraj Elamaram and Secretary Aishe Ghosh, the verdict represents a strong rejection of what they called anti-student policies by the university administration and the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Delhi government. They added that the organization would continue its struggle against communalization and repression on campuses.
