Uduppi: Jana Sena Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has triggered widespread controversy after claiming that the Indian Constitution and the Bhagavad Gita are essentially the same. He made the remark during a Geeta Utsav event held at the Sri Krishna Math in Udupi, Karnataka, where he described the Bhagavad Gita as the “true handwritten Constitution.”

The statement has drawn significant criticism.

“Some people think Dharma and the Constitution belong to two different worlds, but that's not true. Dharma is a moral compass, and the Constitution is a legal compass. Both aim at creating a just, peaceful, and compassionate society,” Pawan Kalyan said.

Senior Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad strongly criticised Kalyan, saying that celebrities who do not understand the Constitution make such statements. “The Constitution is secular; it has no place for religious Dharma,” he asserted.

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge also criticised Pawan Kalyan, stating that he lacked understanding of both law and Dharma. The Constitution and Dharma can never be equated, Kharge said.
