Dehradun: A 65-year-old man was killed after boulders rolled down a hillside near the Chirbasa helipad on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route in Uttarakhand. The deceased was identified as Madan Mohan Tiwari, a native of Ukhimath.

The accident occurred on Sunday when rocks rolling down the slope struck Tiwari. He died at the spot, the State Emergency Operation Centre said.

Amid continuing heavy rain and landslides, mud and debris have accumulated along the Kedarnath pilgrimage route, disrupting movement. Authorities have temporarily suspended the pilgrimage following the disruption.

Pilgrims travelling towards Kedarnath have been advised to end their journey at Sonprayag or Gaurikund. Those returning from Kedarnath have been asked to stay at JangalChatti.

Police have warned pilgrims not to proceed until the debris is cleared and authorities give permission. Officials said the pilgrimage will resume only after weather conditions improve and the route is confirmed to be safe.
