India Sends Second Batch of Relief Consignment to Flood-Ravaged Nepal

New Delhi: India dispatched a second batch of relief material to Nepal on Thursday as the neighbouring country continues to grapple with the aftermath of devastating floods. A military transport aircraft carried 37.5 tonnes of humanitarian assistance, including medicines and food packets, to the flood-affected nation.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced the development on social media, noting that this shipment came a day after India sent its first tranche of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief material — 10 tonnes worth — to Nepal on Wednesday.

"A second flight has just taken off, carrying 37.5 tonnes of HADR material, medicines & food packets for Nepal," Jaishankar posted, adding that India was maintaining close and continuous coordination with Nepalese authorities and would keep backing the relief operations underway.

The assistance comes in response to catastrophic flash floods that struck along Nepal's border with Tibet, claiming at least 165 lives and leaving a trail of destruction across the region. India's first consignment, sent a day earlier, had included temporary shelters, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lamps and medicines for those affected.

Meanwhile, Over 300 Indians are reported missing.
