New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to join the proposed international Board of Peace for Gaza, an initiative announced by US President Donald Trump to oversee post-war reconstruction and governance in the Palestinian enclave. Indian Prime Minister is among dozens of people approached for participation, though the government has not yet publicly confirmed whether it will accept the offer.

The invitation has drawn criticism as the BJP led Narendra Modi’s government has faced sustained criticism for its response to Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, with opponents accusing New Delhi of prioritising strategic ties with Israel over humanitarian concerns and international law. Modi government has largely avoided strong public condemnation of Israel’s actions, even as civilian casualties and destruction in Gaza mounted.

Critics have also questioned the credibility of the proposed Board of Peace itself, noting that several current or prospective members have either openly supported Israel’s campaign or failed to challenge it meaningfully. Rights groups and analysts argue that a peace mechanism dominated by such actors risks sidelining Palestinian voices and legitimising policies that contributed to the crisis in the first place.

As deliberations continue, India’s decision — and the broader composition of the board — is likely to remain under scrutiny, particularly over whether the initiative can genuinely promote peace rather than reinforce existing power imbalances in the conflict.

Currently, the committee's members include US Secretary of State Rubio, Trump envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga and Trump's deputy national security adviser Robert Gabriel, along with an Israeli businessman, billionaire Yakir Gabay.
