New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has come out with a significant decision that brings relief to air travellers, directing all airlines in the country to make Wi-Fi facilities available to passengers.
The new decision aims to ensure internet connectivity on domestic flights as well. The move is being seen as a step that will help elevate India's aviation sector to global standards. The new directive also lays down conditions that passengers must follow. Wi-Fi use will be permitted only above an altitude of 10,000 feet, mobile phones and laptops must be used in flight mode, and pilots will have the authority to suspend Wi-Fi services for safety reasons, among other key conditions.
With Wi-Fi services now being made available, passengers will be able to use the connectivity for business needs and essential communication. Currently, only 28 Air India aircraft are equipped with internet facilities.
