New Delhi: The CPIM Polit Bureau has strongly criticised the Modi government’s response to the crisis in Venezuela, describing it as 'disgraceful' and "unworthy of India’s long-held tradition of defending the sovereignty of nations.'
The party pointed out that the Ministry of External Affairs’ statement, which expressed only 'deep concern' and called for 'dialogue to ensure peace and stability,' failed to condemn the abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife by US forces, calling it a 'gross violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.'
The CPI M contrasted India’s cautious stance with its BRICS partners, including Brazil and South Africa, which have strongly condemned the US action and demanded the release of Maduro and his wife. The party linked India’s position to the Modi government’s right-wing ideology and strategic alignment with the Trump administration, accusing it of abandoning the interests of the Global South.
The CPIM has demanded that the government take a clear stand against US aggression and illegal acts in Venezuela.
