New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was allegedly detained at Delhi airport for nearly three hours after returning from a visit to France and was subsequently fined ₹50,000, according to a complaint. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged that officials told them the chief minister had been detained due to pressure from the central government.

AAP accused the Centre of engaging in vendetta politics and deliberately attempting to humiliate Punjab. The Centre had denied permission for Bhagwant Mann’s foreign visit. He subsequently travelled abroad with the permission of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Meanwhile, airport authorities said the Customs Department imposed a customs duty of ₹50,000 because of a failure to declare certain items in the luggage. The baggage of staff members accompanying the chief minister was also inspected.
