12 Injured After Air India Flight from Phuket Encounters Mid-Air Turbulence

New Delhi: At least 12 people, including two cabin crew members, were injured after an Air India flight travelling from Phuket to Delhi encountered turbulence during its journey on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at around 10.30 am, shortly before the aircraft entered Indian airspace. The flight, AI2379, was carrying around 125 passengers and was operating from Phuket to Delhi.

According to reports, the aircraft experienced a brief turbulence-related event while cruising at an altitude of around 300 feet. The incident caused a sudden and momentary change in altitude. A temporary technical malfunction is suspected to have contributed to the incident.

The flight had departed Phuket at 8.27 am local time and landed safely at Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 11.07 am. All passengers and crew members later disembarked safely.

The pilot-in-command reported that 10 passengers and two cabin crew members were injured. One of the crew members sustained serious injuries, while another crew member and several passengers suffered minor injuries.

A Delhi airport source said passengers and crew members who sustained minor injuries and required medical assessment were taken to an airport medical facility as a precaution. They were provided medical care by Air India’s airport team and healthcare personnel.

The cabin crew member who suffered serious injuries was shifted to a hospital for further treatment.

The DGCA has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances that led to the sudden loss of altitude and examine the suspected technical fault.

Air India said the aircraft landed safely and that all passengers and crew members had been safely deboarded.
