Vizhinjam's First Containers Did Not Carry Idli, Sambar, Contrary to Satheesan's Claim

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister VD Satheesan's claim that the first containers sent out from Vizhinjam carried idli and sambar has turned out to be false. Satheesan made the statement at the ceremony marking the dispatch of containers from Vizhinjam Port.
The first containers did not contain idli or sambar. As per reports, they mainly carried products made from bananas and jackfruit, along with Marayoor jaggery, which has Geographical Indication (GI) status. The products belonged to Nilamel Foods, a major exporter of processed food products. Keralam's traditional food products were transported to Valencia, a major city in Spain.
The ship carrying the first containers was headed towards Mediterranean ports. Idli and sambar are not normally exported to these destinations.
Satheesan has again portrayed his habit of making statements without understanding the facts. Keralam has witnessed several such claims from him within three months of the government assuming office. However, making such a claim at an important public function has drawn particular criticism.
