Veena George Demands Apology from C P John Over Remarks on Women Using Free Bus Travel

Thiruvananthapuram: Former Minister Veena George has criticised Transport Minister C P John over his remarks targeting women who use the free travel facility on KSRTC’s Priyadarshini buses and demanded that he apologise to the women of Keralam.

“Free bus travel is not a favour being granted to women in Keralam by the UDF government. Wasn’t your promise that any woman could travel free of cost, anywhere, at any time, on any bus?” Veena George asked.

She said the women of Keralam had not approached the government seeking its generosity.

“It would be good to remember that the women of Keralam did not come to you seeking your generosity. You went to them and made this promise to secure their votes. Yet, you are now saying that women are boarding buses by pretending to be poor. By making such a statement, you have insulted the women of Keralam,” she said.

Veena George also questioned the minister’s right to dictate personal decisions made by women and families.

“Who are you to decide where mothers in Kerala should educate their children or where they should seek medical treatment for their husbands and parents?” she asked.
