Thiruvananthapuram: Union Minister Suresh Gopi has not yet covered the distance from being a film actor to becoming a mature politician, said Minister V. Sivankutty. Earlier, the criticism was that he had not recovered from the “hangover” of being a movie star, but now he has gone beyond that and reached a stage where he speaks politically without sense or restraint.

Using terms like “oola” to refer to political opponents is unbecoming of someone holding a responsible position. Through such language, he not only embarrasses himself but also reveals the true culture of the movement he represents.

His ignorance about Thiruvananthapuram is astonishing. In a video, he claims that the city has only seven or eight seats. It is shameful that someone who does not even know how many assembly constituencies or Lok Sabha constituencies are in his own district — or even how many wards are in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation — is aspiring to lead the people.

His public admission that he is unable to do anything as a Union Minister is proof of his own incompetence. Instead of correcting that, trying to escape by blaming others is the sign of a failed leader. It is a highly ridiculous stance. With the Nemom constituency in mind, the BJP and Suresh Gopi are now indulging in fantasies. Their dreams, without any understanding of Thiruvananthapuram or its politics, will remain nothing more than a daydream.

Suresh Gopi’s remark that the BJP “lost its account” in Nemom due to “political reactions” is equivalent to insulting all the voters of Nemom. He must withdraw this statement that demeans the people of Nemom. In a democracy, calling the people’s verdict a “reaction” is something for which the BJP will have to pay a heavy price. Kerala will give the appropriate response to such political drama coming from those who lack even basic understanding about the people and the state, Minister V. Sivankutty said in Thiruvananthapuram.
