Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan faced questions from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan regarding his ties with the RSS. Satheesan had participated as the chief guest at the Golwalkar Birth Centenary celebration organised by the RSS in Paravur, where he stood in front of a photo of Golwalkar and lit a lamp. The Chief Minister asked Satheesan to clarify what kind of deal this was.

The timing of Satheesan’s involvement in the RSS event, which coincided with the second term of the RSS Sarsanghchalak and the longest-serving individual in that position, is significant. Satheesan attended the RSS event just before the 2006 Assembly elections. Whenever asked about this event, the Opposition Leader consistently avoids giving a direct answer.

It was revealed in 2022 by the state president of Hindu Aikya Vedi that Satheesan sought RSS support in both the 2001 and 2006 Assembly elections. However, the Opposition Leader has yet to provide a clear response on this matter. Those who suspect that the Golwalkar pooja in 2006 was an attempt to secure RSS support may not be wrong. The Chief Minister, in a Facebook post, has demanded that the Opposition Leader clarify what the deal in Paravur in 2006 was.
