Three More Children Test Positive for Shigella in Keralam; Health Department Intensifies Monitoring

Thiruvananthapuram: Three more cases of Shigella infection have been confirmed in Keralam. The latest cases were reported among three children in Thiruvananthapuram. The infection was detected in areas including Thonnakkal, Chacka, and Puthenthoppu. Authorities stated that the condition of all three children is stable.
Another case of Shigella has also been confirmed in Wayanad. The affected child is a student of Mar Baselios School Koliady.
Earlier, four people, including two children, were diagnosed with Shigella infection in Kollam. The affected children in Kollam include an eight-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl. Two of the infected individuals are from areas under the Kollam Corporation limits. The Kollam District Medical Officer officially confirmed the cases.
The infected individuals are currently receiving treatment in specially arranged isolation wards at Government Medical College Kollam and Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram. The Health Department stated that their health condition remains satisfactory and that surveillance measures have been strengthened.
Earlier, eight children in Wayanad were confirmed to have contracted Shigella. As part of measures to prevent further spread, authorities have imposed strict crowd-control measures in Nenmenny, Wayanad.
Health Minister K Muraleedharan said that the Health Department is closely monitoring the situation. He clarified that the Shigella outbreak in Wayanad has not entered a second phase and that the current situation remains fully under control.
