Thiruvananthapuram: In a heartfelt gesture that underlines the spirit of sportsmanship, Indian cricketer Sanju Samson has pledged to support two young athletes who delivered record -breaking performances at the Kerala School Sports Meet held in Trivandrum in Olympics model.

Announcing the decision, State General Education Minister V Sivankutty said Samson’s foundation would extend full support to Devapriya Shaibu of CHS Calvary Mount, who set a new record in the sub-junior girls’ 100m event, and T M Athul of Charamangalam Government DVHSS, who broke records in both the 100m and 200m categories.

Sivankutty read out a message from Samson, who serves as the brand ambassador of the 2025 State School Sports Meet, a week-long event concluded later today.

“What caught my attention was their remarkable achievements despite challenging life circumstances. With the right support, these young athletes can rise to national and even Olympic levels,” Samson said in his message.

He added that the Sanju Samson Foundation would provide all necessary assistance, including travel and accommodation for state and national competitions, professional coaching, and mentorship.

“The Foundation and I will stand by these children, ensuring they receive every facility needed to race towards greater achievements and become the pride of Kerala,” Samson said.

Following the message, Sivankutty announced that next year’s State School Sports Meet will be held in Kannur. He said this year’s edition saw a record 19,310 students participating in various events.

The minister also announced a new welfare initiative, houses will be built for deserving gold medal winners, with eligibility criteria to be set soon. “Generous individuals can also contribute to this initiative,” he added.
