Thiruvananthapuram: Fresh political controversy has erupted after R V Babu, state president of the Hindu Aikya Vedi, stated that Congress leader V D Satheesan had sought support from the RSS during the 2001 and 2006 Kerala Assembly elections.

Babu claimed that after losing his first election in 1996, Satheesan had personally approached a senior RSS leader in Ernakulam seeking assistance. He further alleged that similar efforts were made during subsequent elections, questioning Satheesan’s ability to take a firm stand against the RSS.

Amid the allegations, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also weighed in, demanding clarification from the opposition leader. In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister referred to Satheesan’s participation in an RSS-organised event in Paravur marking the birth centenary of Golwalkar.

CM questioned the circumstances under which Satheesan attended the event, reportedly inaugurating the function and lighting a ceremonial lamp in front of Golwalkar’s portrait. He suggested that such actions could be interpreted as attempts to secure RSS support and called on Satheesan to clarify the nature of any “understanding” during the 2006 elections.
