Thiruvananthapuram: Congress MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil is scheduled to be presented before the Thiruvalla Magistrate Court at 11 pm. The prosecution is expected to seek custody, citing very serious allegations against him, including rape, threats of forced abortion, murder, and blackmail. Authorities have stated that thorough questioning and collection of evidence from multiple locations will require him to be in custody.
Rahul’s advocate has requested bail, but the court has said it will first examine the crime branch report to assess the depth of the case before deciding on bail. The court also clarified on Monday that the bail application will be considered only after receiving the report.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has already gathered evidence and expressed confidence that it can present sufficient material in court to seek denial of bail. They are planning to request seven days’ custody.
Large protests are anticipated during Rahul’s transfer from Mavelikara Sub-Jail to the court. The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has announced that they will stage demonstrations along the route. The police have deployed additional forces to manage the protests.
