Thrissur: Actor and activist Prakash Raj said the younger generation in the country offers hope for the future. “Young people listen to everything and question everything. The hope lies with them,” he said while inaugurating the delegates’ session of the 16th DYFI state conference in Thrissur.

Prakash Raj said he has had a long association with the DYFI. He said he had also got an opportunity to inaugurate the DYFI conference in Kolkata in 2018. He said he returned this time with greater confidence and hope.

“I saw it directly at Jantar Mantar,” he said, referring to the youth protests. The resistance shown by young people forced many to respond, he said. Eventually, those in power had to acknowledge that the people of the country were watching everything. He added that the young people in this country are not afraid of those who are trying to intimidate them.

Several protests have taken place across the country, but the student movement stood apart, he said. When lakhs of students gathered at Jantar Mantar, Parliament was shaken, he said. The students protested peacefully, but the authorities attacked them.

“It is now certain that the end of fascism is not far away,” Prakash Raj said. Those in power may have guns in their hands, but social media is the weapon of the present, and it is in the hands of the country's youth, he said.

“This fight will not end,” Prakash Raj said, while reiterating his faith in the young generation in this country.

The delegates’ session is being held at Pushpan Nagar at the Regional Theatre in Thrissur. A total of 590 delegates representing 5,193,881 members are participating in the conference. DYFI All India president A A Rahim, secretary Himagnaraj Bhattacharya, treasurer Sajeev Kumar and other national leaders, along with delegates from various states, are attending the conference.
