Thiruvananthapuram: In connection with the cyber attack against the survivor in the sexual assault case involving Palakkad MLA Rahul Mankootathil, police on Monday took the accused, Rahul Easwar, to his residence at Poudikonam in Thiruvananthapuram for evidence collection. A laptop was seized from the house. Before his arrest, Rahul Easwar himself had hinted in a Facebook video that the laptop had been concealed. The device will now be sent to the forensic laboratory for detailed analysis.

The cyber police reached the residence around 10.30 a.m. for the evidence-gathering procedure. Rahul Easwar was arrested on Sunday night for allegedly maligning and defaming the survivor through online platforms and television discussions following the assault incident linked to MLA Rahul Mankootathil.

Police have charged him under sections that do not permit immediate bail. After being taken into custody at around 7 p.m. on Sunday, Rahul Easwar was brought to the Nandavanam AR Camp, where he was interrogated by the Cyber Police Assistant Commissioner and other officials. His arrest was formally recorded and he subsequently underwent medical examination. Following the evidence collection from his home, he was again taken for medical evaluation. He was produced before the court by the police.
