From Cancer Centres to Medical Colleges: CM to Launch Major Projects in Health Sector

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate a series of major projects implemented in the health sector, Health Minister Veena George has announced. Projects worth over 1,800 crore rupees will be dedicated to the public by the Chief Minister on various dates this month. The minister said this is the first time such a large number of development projects in the health sector are being commissioned simultaneously, marking a significant leap forward for healthcare in the state.

Institute of Organ Transplantation, Kozhikode (643.88 crore rupees)
The Institute of Organ Transplantation, Kozhikode, has been set up at a cost of 643.88 crore rupees, with 60 posts created for the institute. In the first phase, it will function at the Kozhikode Medical College. The institute will serve as a centre of excellence for research, treatment, and training in the field of organ donation. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the construction of the new building on February 7.

Cochin Cancer Research Centre – CCRC (387 crore rupees)
The Cochin Cancer Research Centre (CCRC), which is expected to bring a major transformation to cancer care in central Kerala, will be inaugurated on February 9. The centre has been developed with state-of-the-art facilities at a cost of 387 crore rupees.

Alappuzha HOMCO (109.82 crore rupees)
The second phase of development of HOMCO in Alappuzha has been completed at a cost of 109.82 crore rupees. The Chief Minister will inaugurate a new factory capable of manufacturing tablets and ointments.

Malappuram Food Street (1 crore rupees)
A modern food street has been set up at Kottakkunnu in Malappuram at a cost of 1 crore rupees. The project aims to provide quality food in a clean and pleasant environment as part of the state’s initiative to develop modern food streets.

Kottayam Medical College Surgical Block (257 crore rupees)
A new surgical block has been constructed at Kottayam Medical College at a cost of 257 crore rupees. The eight-storey building houses 526 beds, 14 operation theatres, 44 ICU beds, and 12 isolation beds. Advanced medical equipment and facilities worth 115 crore rupees have also been installed.

International Research Institute of Ayurveda – IRIA (200 crore rupees)
The International Research Institute of Ayurveda (IRIA), coming up on 300 acres in Kannur, is described as a milestone in Ayurvedic treatment and research. In the first phase, facilities developed at a cost of 200 crore rupees include a 100-bed hospital, a manuscript study centre, and a medicinal plant nursery and research centre.

Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram (242.42 crore rupees)
A 14-storey building with a total area of 30,680 square metres has been constructed at the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Thiruvananthapuram, at a cost of 242.42 crore rupees. The new building will greatly ease space constraints faced by the RCC.
