Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of Opposition in the Keralam assembly and senior CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday congratulated Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for his historic fourth win as Brazil's president, saying that his victory reaffirms the "enduring relevance of Left politics".

Pinarayi, in an X post, said that Lula's victory reaffirms the enduring relevance of Left politics and the power of the working class to shape its own future.

"From Brazil to India, the lesson is clear that confronting the far right requires a systemic alternative rooted in workers’ rights, social justice and equality," he added.

The senior CPI(M) leader further said that Lula’s victory renews hope in the struggle against the Sangh Parivar’s divisive politics and for a more just and democratic India.

Brazilian President Lula da Silva, the candidate of the left-wing, has secured a historic victory in the presidential election, defeating far-right candidate Flavio Bolsonaro. Lula won 51.7% of the votes, while Bolsonaro secured 48.2%.

He secured the victory in the runoff elections after both candidates failed to secure a clear majority during the initial election.
