Perumbalam Bridge to be Inaugrated by the Chief Minister Today

Cherthala: The Perumbalam Bridge, which was once thought to be impossible, has become a reality through the determination of the LDF government. Stretching over more than one kilometer across Vembanad Lake, the bridge will be inaugurated for the state by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today at 11 A.M.
The bridge, built by KIFBI at a cost of over Rs 100 crore, connects Perumbalam Panchayat surrounded by the backwaters to the western shore. It is a proud government project aimed at giving a new lease of life to people long suffering from isolation, and also making tourism development possible on the scenic Perumbalam Island and its surroundings.
Building a bridge costing over Rs 100 crore for just over 10,000 residents of Perumbalam is a significant milestone in Kerala’s development history. The government’s policy that the benefits of development should reach everyone has been a blessing for the state. The bridge, 11 meters wide and starting at Vaduthala in Arukkutti Panchayat, is a spectacular sight. To avoid pillars where the national waterway passes, it has been constructed using the bowstring arch model.
The AC road, constructed at a cost of 752 crores, the Padaharam Bridge built for 65.5 crores, and the construction of the Kavalam Thattasheri Bridge will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister at a ceremony held at Mankomb Junction at 10 AM. Along with this, the inauguration of various projects under the Public Works Department will also take place. As part of the Rebuild Kerala Initiative under the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP), the AC Road has been revamped as a semi-elevated highway. The Padaharam Bridge was completed under the supervision of the Kerala Road Fund Board (KRF) with financial assistance from KIIFBI.
In the events, Minister Adv. P.A. Mohammed Riyas will preside over the function. Ministers K.N. Balagopal, Saji Cherian, P. Prasad, as well as MPs, MLAs from the district, and other public representatives will also participate.
