Adoor Prakash’s Remarks Show UDF Is Not With the Survivor, Says Minister P Rajeev

Kochi: Minister P Rajeev said that UDF’s stance in the actress attack case has become clear through Adoor Prakash’s remarks — the UDF is not with the survivor. On the day the verdict was pronounced, the Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan himself had stated that the government would go for an appeal. But when Adoor Prakash asked, “Does the government have no other work?”, their true position became evident, the minister told the media in Kochi.
He said that securing punishment for those directly involved in the crime is the success of the investigation team and the prosecution. However, the court observed that the conspiracy behind the crime could not be proven. The government has no stand on whether any particular individual committed a crime or not, Rajeev said. It is the responsibility of the investigation team to uncover that, and the judiciary to examine the chargesheet and make decisions.
The government has given complete freedom to the investigating team. The government has stood with the survivor at every stage, considering her interests throughout. It will continue to do so in the steps ahead as well, he added.
The government had already announced its decision to file an appeal. Standing with the survivor has always been — and will continue to be — the government’s position, Minister P. Rajeev said.
