Kochi: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has initiated steps to cancel the driving licence of the accused in the Nedumbassery accident in which three scooter riders were killed after being hit by a speeding Mini Cooper. The department is expected to proceed with the action once it receives the police report on the accident.

The accused, Suhail, is in judicial custody. Police have also arrested two others who were with him. According to police, three people were accompanying Suhail, and all of them had visited bars and consumed alcohol together.

The two others have been charged with abetment. The allegations against them are that they failed to stop Suhail from driving under the influence of alcohol and encouraged him to drive at excessive speed. They will be produced before the court on Monday.

The accident occurred early on Sunday. Suhail had arrived to pick up a friend from the airport. There are reports that he stopped at three bars and consumed alcohol while travelling towards Nedumbassery, and recorded videos of himself drinking on his mobile phone.
