M. V. Govindan Blames US Policies for Escalating West Asian Conflict

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) State Secretary M V Govindan on Friday criticised US President Donald Trump for what he described as actions that are “setting the world aflame” and pushing the West Asian region toward large-scale conflict. M V Govindan made the remarks at a press conference following recent military strikes in the region.
He asserted that the attack on Iran reflects a broader strategy by the United States to control natural resources, particularly oil. “Whether in Venezuela or Iran, the objective remains the same — to seize energy resources,” he said, calling the aggression “barbaric” and urging nationwide protests against what he termed US imperialism.
He emphasised that opposition to the military action should extend across the political spectrum. “Everyone should stand united in resisting this imperialist offensive,” Govindan said.
The CPI(M) leader also warned that any escalation of conflict in West Asia would directly impact Kerala’s economy and workforce. With lakhs of Keralites employed in the Gulf region, he said, instability in the Middle East will cause widespread anxiety among families here.
M V Govindan described the evolving situation in the Gulf as a source of grave concern for the people of Kerala and urged calm while advocating diplomatic solutions.
