Muslim League Backs BJP in Kasaragod Panchayat, BJP Secures Standing Committee Post

Kasargod: In a significant political development, the Muslim League has aligned with the BJP in Paivalige Panchayat in Kasaragod district, enabling the BJP to secure the post of Standing Committee Chairperson with League support. Earlier, four UDF members had voted in favour of the BJP during the election of Standing Committee members.

With the backing of the Muslim League, BJP leader Sumana G Bhatt was elected Chairperson of the Health and Education Standing Committee. The alliance between the League and the BJP was reportedly formed as per directives from their respective leaderships, with the shared objective of countering the LDF.

Paivalige Panchayat has a total of 21 wards. The current strength of parties in the panchayat is: UDF – 9 members, LDF – 7 members, and BJP – 5 members.
