Kozhikode: CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby has expressed full confidence that the Left Democratic Front will secure a consecutive second term in the Kerala Legislative Assembly elections. Speaking in Kozhikode, he stated that the current political climate is entirely favourable to the LDF, and that the people of Kerala will return the Left to power as recognition of the government's welfare-oriented governance.

Baby took a pointed dig at Opposition Leader V D Satheesan's claim that the Congress represents the "real left," calling it an inadvertent acknowledgement of the relevance and dominance of left politics in Kerala. "Satheesan knows very well that only the Left commands genuine acceptance among the people of this state, and that without claiming a left identity, no party can hope to find traction here," Baby said. That is precisely why, he added, even Congress leaders feel compelled to project themselves as leftists.

He reiterated that the BJP and the Congress are two sides of the same coin. On the question of the SDPI, Baby was unequivocal — CPI(M) has held no discussions with the organisation and has not sought its support. He called on the SDPI to intrinsically reform its mode of functioning. On who they vote for, he said, is entirely their own decision, but the LDF will welcome every vote in Nemom that seeks to defeat the BJP.

Turning to Jamaat-e-Islami, Baby described the organisation's ideology as dangerous, stating that it remains firmly committed to the concept of a theocratic state even today. Only the Left, he asserted, has the strength and the ideological clarity to stand as a bulwark against such communal forces. Defeating the BJP remains the Left's primary electoral objective. He concluded by saying that secular Kerala will decisively reject both communalism and the Congress's characteristic opportunism at the ballot box.
