Kavasseri, Kerala: On Diwali, newlyweds Lavanya and Vishnu received their marriage certificate at the very hall where they tied the knot, marking a unique milestone in Kerala’s digital governance. Immediately after their wedding, the couple completed their marriage registration via K-Smart’s video KYC system. Despite the holiday, Kavasseri Panchayat officials processed and approved the application in real time, and the certificate was delivered to the couple via WhatsApp within minutes.
Panchayat member T Velayudhan joined the newlyweds for photographs and personally handed them a printed copy of the certificate, showcasing the combination of technology and personal care. Since the launch of K-Smart, Kerala has recorded over 1.5 lakh marriage registrations, with nearly 63,000 completed through video KYC.
The system allows couples to register their marriage without visiting the Panchayat office, while officials can approve applications from anywhere, even on holidays. The Kavasseri Panchayat staff have been widely praised for their dedication, and the Information Kerala Mission was commended for making such seamless digital services possible.
