Muvattupuzha: Claims made by UDF candidate Mathew Kuzhalnadan during a press conference described as “shocking revelations” are now facing serious scrutiny, with several of his allegations falling apart.

Kuzhalnadan had convened a press meet at a private hotel in Muvattupuzha, alleging that the devastating 2018 Kerala floods were the result of mismanagement by the LDF government.

However, the Mary Matha Company has come forward denying any contractual involvement in the Thottappilly spillway or mineral sand operations during the period in question. The company clarified that it was established only on December 15, 2019—more than a year after the August 2018 floods—contradicting Kuzhalnadan’s claim that it had agreements with the state government at the time.

Questions were also raised by journalists regarding the authenticity of an audio clip that Kuzhalnadan released, allegedly involving Minister K Krishnankutty. Kuzhalnadan failed to provide clear answers on the credibility of the recording or why he had not approached the court if the audio was indeed strong evidence.

He also did not clarify when the conversation in the audio clip took place or with whom the minister was allegedly speaking. When pressed by reporters on why these details were not disclosed, Kuzhalnadan responded that he would elaborate after the LDF’s reaction, before abruptly ending the press conference.

Kuzhalnadan has previously faced backlash for making unsubstantiated allegations against the government. The claims he recently presented as “shocking” had already been dismissed earlier, including by the High Court.
