KSRTC Adopts AI-Based Scheduling to Reduce Daily Losses and Improve Efficiency

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is moving towards profitability by adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in its operations. Transport Minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar launched an AI-based scheduling system designed to make services more efficient and reduce losses.
The system will use AI to manage “bunching,” a situation where multiple buses run close together on the same route, by controlling passenger boarding and stops more effectively. If the first bus on a route has fewer passengers, the information will be shared in real time with the following bus, allowing it to adjust its schedule and avoid running empty or under-occupied buses.
The software collects and analyses real-time data from employee duty schedules, ticketing information, and GPS tracking to optimize operations. Minister Ganesh Kumar said that with the AI system in place, bus bunching will be under control. This is the first time such a system is being implemented in India’s public transport sector. Once digitalization is fully completed, daily losses are expected to decrease by around 45 percent.
