Kochi Water Metro Conducts Hydrology Study Ahead of Airport Service Launch

Kochi: A hydrology study will be conducted this week as a preparatory step for launching the Water Metro service to Kochi International Airport. The proposed service will operate from Aluva via the Periyar River. The study aims to understand the impact of canal development, water flow changes, and potential effects on the project area.
KMRL stated that the study is expected to be completed within three days. Based on its findings, a feasibility report will be prepared, followed by the development of a detailed project report (DPR). Investigations are also being carried out to assess the feasibility of utilizing the designated Nedumbassery railway station for the service.
High-speed boats will be used for the airport service, with operations planned at 10-minute intervals. The initial stretch from Aluva to the airport along the Periyar spans 8 kilometers. Once the Aluva route is finalized, the project team will explore the possibility and demand for other routes.
The second phase of Kochi Metro is scheduled to be completed by the end of December.
