Thiruvananthapuram: The cyclonic circulation persisting over the Kanyakumari sea and nearby regions is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area by tomorrow over the Kanyakumari coast, Sri Lanka, and the southwest Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has also warned that rains will continue across Kerala in the coming days.

The well-marked low-pressure area that previously lay over the Malacca Strait and the south Andaman Sea is currently positioned over Malaysia and the Malacca Strait. Over the next 24 hours, it is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the south Andaman Sea. Within the following 48 hours, it is likely to further strengthen into a cyclonic storm over the southern Bay of Bengal as it continues moving in the same direction.

Three districts in Kerala have been issued a yellow alert for today—Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta. A yellow alert has also been issued for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam for tomorrow. The forecast indicates the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall, which corresponds to rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
