Thiruvananthapuram: Keralam has been warned of the possibility of very heavy rainfall in the coming days, as a low-pressure area has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Tamil Nadu coast.
A cyclonic circulation is currently located over the Thailand Strait and adjoining areas of Thailand and Myanmar. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the system is likely to move into the North Andaman Sea today before travelling west-northwestwards.
Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal around October 23. The system is then expected to move northwestwards and may intensify further over the next three days.
The IMD has also forecast rain at isolated places in all districts of Keralam over the next three hours. Isolated places may experience moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph.
