Summer Rains Bring Relief Across Kerala, IMD Forecasts More Showers

Thiruvananthapuram: Summer rain brought much-needed respite to several parts of Kerala on Saturday, offering a welcome break from the intense heat that has been gripping the state. Rainfall was recorded across various localities in Kannur, Kozhikode, and Palakkad districts, with the hilly interior regions of Kannur receiving particularly heavy showers. Moderate rainfall was also reported in Kannur town and Thalassery.
In Kozhikode district, rain lashed several areas, bringing a noticeable drop in atmospheric temperature. The heaviest showers were concentrated in the hilly and coastal belts of the district, with rainfall beginning around noon in the Kuttiady, Nadapuram, and Vadakara regions. Strong winds and lightning accompanied the rain in these areas.
No damage to property or any other untoward incidents have been reported in the wake of the showers. For residents who have been enduring weeks of scorching summer heat, the arrival of summer rain has come as a significant relief.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast stating that within the next three hours, isolated locations in Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts are likely to experience moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning, along with strong winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour. In Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Palakkad districts, isolated spells of moderate rain with lightning and winds of up to 40 kilometres per hour are expected, while other districts may see light rainfall at isolated places.
The IMD has further forecast that isolated thundershowers are likely to continue across the state on Sunday as well, accompanied by strong winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. The wet spell is expected to persist through the early part of next week, with thundershowers forecast from Monday through Wednesday.
