Kerala Police Arrest 1,663 Accused in Statewide Operation Round Up

Thiruvananthapuram: In a statewide special drive to strengthen law and order, Kerala Police arrested 691 people involved in serious crimes and 972 absconding accused in various cases.


The operation, titled “Operation Round Up,” was carried out on the direction of State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar. It aimed at tracking down rowdies, habitual offenders, thieves and other wanted criminals and bringing them before the law.


The drive was conducted from February 12 to 14 under the supervision of Law and Order ADGP H. Venkatesh. Senior officers, including Zone IGs, Range DIGs and District Police Chiefs, led the action in their respective areas.


During the operation, preventive steps were taken against 1,028 persons under Sections 126 and 129 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA), 20 persons were placed under preventive detention, while externment proceedings were started against 30 others.


Police also registered 1,354 cases of drunken driving during the period. Steps have been initiated to cancel the driving licences of those booked. Officials said such drives will continue as part of efforts to maintain public safety across the state.
