Kerala Won’t Support Centre’s Labour Reforms Against Workers’ Interests: Sivankutty

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will not take any stance that goes against the interests of workers while implementing the Centre’s labour code reforms, said State Labour Minister V. Sivankutty. He was speaking to the media in Thiruvananthapuram regarding the Union Government’s labour code overhaul.
The Minister stated that the Labour Code reforms are being closely examined by the state government. Kerala will not permit any move that weakens the state’s unique labour relations or undermines trade union rights, he asserted.
Sivankutty stressed that the simplification of labour laws should aim at creating an industry-friendly environment while also improving workers’ living conditions. Kerala’s priority, he said, will be to ensure better wages, health and safety measures, social security coverage, and dignified working conditions.
The Minister added that the state will frame its rules in alignment with the central codes only after discussions with major trade unions and representatives from the industrial sector in Kerala. Necessary provisions will be included to ensure that no existing or new rule adversely affects the social security or labour rights of workers in the state.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring protection for every worker in Kerala.
