Heavy Rain to Continue in Keralam; Orange Alert in Eight Districts, Holiday Declared for Schools and Colleges

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall across Keralam and issued an Orange Alert for eight districts on Friday.

The Orange Alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts, while the remaining districts are under a Yellow Alert.

In view of the adverse weather conditions, district collectors have declared a holiday on Friday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod and Ernakulam districts. In Thrissur, schools functioning as relief camps have also been granted a holiday. However, examinations scheduled in advance will be held as planned.

Meanwhile, one more rain-related death was reported in Kottayam on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Bins Varghese (52), a native of Thiruvarppu.

With the latest fatality, the death toll from rain-related incidents in Keralam has risen to 30.
