Thiruvananthapuram: Three more people have suffered burns and heatstroke-related injuries across Keralam as the state continues to reel under heat wave conditions, with cases reported from Kollam, and Palakkad districts.

Nihal, a resident of Kottiyam in Kollam, sustained burns on his hand while riding a motorcycle and sought treatment at a nearby hospital. Auto driver Jayan of Lakkidi Koottupatha in Palakkad district suffered burns on his neck and three other parts of his body. Jayashree of Ottapalam also reported heatstroke symptoms while travelling.

In Malappuram, Sherif (48) fell ill while dismantling a tank at his home. By evening, the skin on his body had begun to peel. He sought treatment at Changaramkulam Primary Health Centre, where doctors advised complete rest.

Similar incidents have been reported from various parts of the state over the past several days, and the Health Department has called on the public to remain alert. The Disaster Management Authority has urged outdoor workers to reschedule their activities away from peak heat hours.

Advisory

UV index peaks between 10 am and 3 pm — avoid prolonged direct sun exposure during this period. Outdoor workers, fisherfolk, water transport workers, motorcyclists, tourists, and those with skin conditions, eye ailments, cancer, or weakened immunity must exercise special caution. Wear hats, use umbrellas, put on sunglasses, and dress in full-sleeved cotton clothing when stepping out. Rest in shade during breaks. Those living in highland and tropical areas should be especially vigilant, as UV levels tend to remain elevated in such locations.
