Kerala to Witness Another Heart Transplant as Brain-Dead Donor’s Heart Is Airlifted to Ernakulam General Hospital

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala to witness another Heart transplant operation, with organs donated by Shibu, who was declared brain-dead at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The heart is being transported by air ambulance to the Ernakulam General Hospital.


Shibu (47), a native of Chirakkal, Idavattom in Kollam district, suffered brain death following a road accident. His heart is being transplanted into Durga, a woman from Nepal.


Apart from the heart, Shibu’s two kidneys, liver, both corneas, skin, and other organs are also being donated. One kidney and the liver have already been transplanted into patients at KIMS Hospital. The heart valves and corneas will be preserved for use by other patients.


However, one kidney and the pancreas could not be used as they were not compatible with recipients.
