Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has extended financial assistance for families affected by the landslide in Meppadi Grama Panchayat, Wayanad Taluk, which occurred on 30 July 2024.
Families who lost their primary breadwinners will continue to receive a monthly relief of 300 rupees per adult member for two members per family from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for 30 days. In addition, families with long-term hospitalised or bedridden patients will receive an extra 300 rupees per eligible family member from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).
The initial nin e-month assistance period ended in December 2025. However, since the Wayanad Township rehabilitation project for disaster victims has not yet been completed, many affected families continue to live in government quarters or rented houses. Recognising their ongoing hardship, the Kerala government has approved the continuation of livelihood support.
The government has authorised the extension of SDRF support for two members per family who lost their breadwinners, along with additional CMDRF assistance for long-term ill or bedridden family members, for six more months until June 2026 or until permanent houses are constructed and handed over, whichever comes first.
The assistance will be granted only upon submission of a sworn declaration confirming that no alternative source of livelihood is available. The necessary funds will be drawn from the remaining SDRF allocation, with any shortfall covered by CMDRF.
Through this measure, the Kerala government continues to protect and support families affected by the Mundakkai Chooralmala disaster, ensuring their survival and dignity until permanent housing solutions are provided.
