Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI(M) state secretariat has announced that anti-war rallies and anti-imperialist programmes will be held across Kerala on June 17 and 18, condemning the Israeli military strikes on Iran and the United States’ support for the offensive.
In a public statement, the CPI(M) said Israel's actions are destabilising West Asia, turning the region into a battlefield and pushing the world closer to widespread conflict. The party accused Israel of violating Iran’s sovereignty by entering its territory and attacking key infrastructure, describing it as a deliberate attempt to dismantle the nation's institutional systems.
The statement said the current offensive is part of a broader plan to weaken Iran and suppress all forms of regional resistance, aligning with the strategic goals of American imperialism. It also noted that several nations, including China, have voiced concerns over such aggressive policies.
Highlighting that Israeli airstrikes have reportedly targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities, the CPI(M) reiterated Iran’s longstanding claim that its nuclear programme is meant for peaceful energy development — a position supported by international inspections.
The party drew parallels to the 2003 US invasion of Iraq, which was justified on claims of weapons of mass destruction that were later proven false. It warned that similar narratives are now being used to justify attacks on Iran.
The statement criticised Israel's continued disregard for international resolutions on Palestine, accusing it of ongoing assaults on hospitals, restricting access to essential supplies like food and medicine, and subjecting Palestinian civilians to collective punishment.
CPI(M) also expressed concern over India’s current silence on these issues, contrasting it with the country’s historical support for the Palestinian cause. It said India now appears aligned with US foreign policy interests, which amounts to silent approval of these actions.
The party called for public vigilance against attempts to frame the issue in communal terms, stating that the real concern is a wider imperialist strategy that prioritises arms trade over human lives.
Urging mass mobilisation, CPI(M) said that anti-imperialist campaigns will be conducted at local and area levels throughout Kerala. It appealed to all democratic and peace-loving citizens to take part in these initiatives.
