Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has taken a significant step in empowering women with serious health conditions by setting up facilities to preserve eggs and embryos for cancer- affected women at SAT Hospital, Trivandrum Medical College.
Sharing the development, Health Minister Veena George said the system for freezing and storing eggs and embryos was established last year and is now fully operational. The preserved eggs and embryos can be stored for ten years or longer, offering women with cancer the opportunity to plan for future parenthood despite their illness.
This initiative ensures that women with acute health challenges can exercise their reproductive rights, aligning with the government’s broader efforts to provide accessible and affordable healthcare. While such facilities are often prohibitively expensive in the private sector, ST Hospital offers the service at a modest rate, making it accessible to those who need it most.
