Courts Need Not Intervene in Every Matter, Says K Muraleedharan

Thrissur: Minister K Muraleedharan has said that judicial intervention is increasing in almost every matter and that it is leading to unnecessary controversies.
Speaking to reporters in Thrissur, Muraleedharan questioned what role devotees and the authorities concerned would have if courts intervened in every issue. Referring to the Sabarimala Temple, he said neither the Travancore Devaswom Board nor the state government had any real role in matters concerning the temple, alleging that even decisions on which flowers should be used in the temple were being dictated by the High Court.
The minister said the time had come for a serious discussion on whether such extensive judicial intervention in temple affairs was necessary. He added that he had already raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly.
Muraleedharan further said that while legislators need not fear speaking on such matters inside the Assembly, making similar remarks outside the House could invite allegations of contempt of court.
