IMD Warns of Five Days of Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain across Kerala over the next five days. A low-pressure area has already formed over the Kanyakumari sea, while another system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal on November 22. The new system may intensify within 48 hours, the IMD said. As a result, the state is expected to receive widespread thunderstorms and isolated heavy rainfall during this period.
Ten districts are under a yellow alert today: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. No rain alerts have been issued for Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.
However, a yellow alert has been declared for Saturday in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki, where isolated heavy rainfall is likely. These districts may receive 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain within 24 hours, according to the IMD.
